Hello Mike: Thought we had anwered you. Your ggg-grandfather William Cotton who came up from South Carolina died in Franklin County, Indiana leaving a will in 1834. William Cotton was born on the Smith River, Henry County, Va. 27 Feb 1750. So you would have to go into Franklin or Henry Counties, Virginia to find any background on him. Al and I wrote the book "JAMES COTTON (1775-1813)His Kinfolks" in 1993. He was the son William left behind in Madison/Garrard Counties, Kentucky when came north from South Carolina.
We have been working on his children: 1) Mary
Cotton Cremar, 2) Joseph Cotton 3) Phoebe Cotton who married Jesse Woodyard 22 Aug 1833
4)Rachel Cotton. All these Children went with him north to Franklin, Ohio.
All the present day Cotton's in Madison and Garrard Counties, Kentucky are descendants of James Cotton War of 1812 Soldier.
Interested in any present day descendants of William Cotton (1750-1833).
Would like to hear from your. Margaret Cotton
Spiry
