Thank you. I suspect the county of Warwick is an error and that it is most probably Staffordshire. There is a place called Cotton in Staffs actually in the parish of Alton but VERY close to the parish of Kingsley - just over the parish boundary.

According to David Horovitz "Placenames of Staffordshire" the name of the place Cotton (earliest reference 1277) probably derives from Old English "Cotan" = 'cottages'

Kingsley was held by the Bassetts of Blore. Isabel Cotton daughter of Sir Rd Cotton married Sir William Bassett of Blore in 1523/4 but died shortly after the marriage.

I have sent a copy of my transcription of the document to Ross. If you want a copy of that or the original documents let me know.

David
