Now that I feel certain that Allen Cotton b.1795 is my GG Grandfather, I can post some information from my family members collected by my father in 1939. These items are from interviews, so they should not be considered "verified":
- Allen was red-headed, medium size
- Allen's father died when he was small.
- Allen was raised by his grandfather
- Allen married against Gfather's will and immediately left and never went back.
- "...my grandmother (Allen's wife) was Jenny, I think she was a Bly." (Allen was married to Rebecca according to the 1850 Census, but the 1840 Census shows a female 10 years older - or in that range, so Jenny could have been a 1st wife)
- They were married in NC then went to VA.
- In 1839 Allen signed a mortgage for some livestock in Rutherford County, TN (signed with an "X")
- he died near Murfreesboro
