I can help a little with this. David N. Cotton (my gr. grandfather) was the one who died in 1918 of injuries he sustained in an incident he had as a Texas Ranger. He was about 48 years old when he died. That makes his DOB about 1870. He certainly is a candidate to be the son of the earlier David N. but I have found no concrete evidence to that. He is also the same David N. who married Molly / Mollie / Mary VanCleve.
