Dear Sydney:
Upon reading some of the messages regarding the Germany Family, I read your message concerning a Sarah Holmes. I am researching the Cotton Family, which includes the Rice Family. In my study is a Pierce Butler Holmes who was born in Darien, Georgia, and I have been told by a member of the Holmes Family of Darien that he believed he was the son of Dr. James Holmes of Darien, GA. Pierce Butler Holmes died of injuries from the American Civil War. He is listed in the Federal Census of 1860 of Chatham County/Savannah, Georgia, as living in the household of an ancestor of mine, Mrs. Ann Ellen Morrell, who was born in the Old Barnwell District of S. C. in 1808. Your message regarded a Sarah Holmes. My family study includes the States of South Carolina and Georgia, and includes the families of: Rice, Cotton, Holmes, Blount, Davis, Sweat, Atkins, and McLean,to name a few.
Sincerely,
Carole Melson.
