My ggg grpa was CHARLES COTTON b. 20 Jan 1785 SC, district/county unknown, d.12 Oct 1867 Bear Creek, Searcy Co., ARK. He m. 23 Jan 1806 Williamson Co.TN to ELIZABETH LYONS b. 23 Mar 1790 TN (poss.father: Patrick Lyons?), d. 18 May 1862 Bear Creek,Searcy Co., ARK. First child named JOHN LEE COTTON, b. 26 Jan 1807 TN, second child (my line) SAMUEL BIRD COTTON b. 5 Sep 1809 Perry Co., TN. How does CHARLES fit in with the other Cotton families of SC, esp. Edgefield District? Family legend says that CHARLES was 1/4 Choctaw Indian. Does anyone have info. on this? Where did SAMUEL get his middle name of BIRD?
How did CHARLES show up in Williamson Co., TN, near Sumner Co. where a lot of other COTTONS were. In Perry Co., TN, an ELIJAH COTTON was enum. 1830 Census along with CHARLES & family. How are they related?
Thank you.
