My ggg grpa Charles Cotton was b. 1785 in SC., m. 1806 Williamson Co. TN to Elizabeth Lyons. We don't know where in SC, but believe he may be related to the other Cottons of Edgefield Dist. No one seems to know which family he fits in! His first son was named John Lee Cotton, and second son (my line) was Samuel Bird Cotton. Does anyone know where the "Bird" and "Lee" came from?
I know there were a lot of Cottons in Sumner Co., TN pre 1800's, and why was Charles found in Wmson Co, which is near Sumner? Was his father the John Cotton who came with Robertson to settle in Davidson Co?
Thank you.
