Hi, I am related to Eli Cotton. My Great great grandmother Lorena Cotton kept a journal and I am fortunate enough to have it. I am including an excerpt from her journal. She doesn't go into great detail as she is talking about her husband, Lewis Carey Cotton's family. The two were married January 12th, 1875, and lived in Franklin, GA for a while. They had their first son Clyde on December 19th 1875. They moved to Florida on February 12th, 1876 due to the boom in the citrus industry. But, I digress, here is the info you needed:
"Mr. Eli Cotton, my husband’s father, with three brothers, came from England. Eli, (my husband’s father) settled in Coweta County, Georgia. His brother Carey settled in Alabama, on the Red River; his brother William, in North Georgia, or Tennessee, and the other was lost sight of, mail service being so poor at the time.
My husband’s father married Miss Sarah Watkins, they both were Baptists, he Primitive and she a Missionary, but after they married they both came into the Missionary church, however, all their boys married Methodist girls and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church. Their children were Dandridge, Levi, Lewis, Carey, Anna, Jimmie Ransom, Charlie, and McHundaro."
