Hello Cousins,
My name is Miriam and my mother's maiden name is Cotter. I am a student of philology and etymology (I study word origins).

Did you know that if you are a Cotter, your name is the stuff of the great Norse Sagas and the Arthurian legends? You come from the fiercest warlords and most famous kings the western world has ever known!

I have just published an article on my research into the completely fantastic origins of our name (Cotter, Mac Oitir, Oitir, etc.) and, if you are a Cotter, you don't want to miss finding out about the extremely astonishing people you come from.

Please read my article on the Origins of the Surname Cotter at

I would just love your feedback on this. It has been the most exciting trip back into the past I've ever taken! You are welcome to link to it on your personal family history sites so that we can get the word out about this. Teach it to your children, share it with your relatives. I guarantee, you won't ever forget this once you've read it.

Best wishes to all my Cotter family out there.
