COTHRANs of North Carolina
A brick wall.
Alexander COHARON, with several different spellings, even in his will.
He was married to Ester, maiden name possibly DICKERSON.
It is likely that Ester was his 2nd wife, as there is an 8-year gap
between child #6 and #7, and Ester was pregnant when Alexander died.
His will is dated Oct 1775 and probated May 1776 in Orange Co.
In 1767 he bought 326a on North Fork of Flat River. He signed
the 1771 Caswell Petition, recorded as Alexander COWHORN,
Just about all his descendants used the name COUTHRAN or COTHRAN.
His children:Mary married Joseph JAY;John (COTHRAN) married
Mary SATTERFIELD;James (COTHRAN) married Sarah BOWLES;
Alexander COTHRAN married Hester STEDMAN;Samuel COTHRAN
married Mary Ann RICHARDSON;Jean ??;Isabel "Iz" married Jonathan
CATES,Ester married James DORITY [my g+grandparents];
Michael, en utero when Alexander died and died in SC age 33 evidently unmarried.
