My grandfather was Eli Warren Cribb, from Appling county GA. I have just been made aware that he was actually the illegitmate son of Ezekial Cothern. My grandfather was born in 1845. The information I have is that he married unknown Cribb, what year I don't know. There was also another child, Sally Cribb. My understanding is that they were raised with his other children. I did find my grandfather on the 1850 Appling County census living with his mother Sarah as well as some siblings.
This Cothern line is totally new to me and this is about all the information I have right now, although I have been in contact with a newly found relative that has much more.
It's possible that your Ezekiel is not the same one, however the birth year is close and Appling and Coffee counties are adjacent. In fact those counties were a part of one another at one time if I'm not mistaken.
Ancestry.com lists an Ezekiel Cothern as born in Emanuel County GA, in 1814 and died in Appling County GA on Dec 23, 1878.
I hope this is enough information to determine if this is your Ezekial. I am related to your wife if so, and would love to hear from you.
