There is actually a book with an entire biography of Jean Côté and Anne Martin in it, including a picture (artists sketch, nice but not real) of him. It is "Our French-Canadian Ancestors" by Thomas J. Laforest. Jean's biography is Chapter 6 of the 6th volume. Each volume costs about $22.00 and contains biographies on about 20 of the original settlers of Québec. Volume 6 also contains biographies on François Bélanger, Gaspard & Pierre Boucher, Élie & Pierre Bourbaut, Robert Caron, Etienne de Nevers, Pierre Dizy dit Montplaisir, Thomas & Jean Godefroy, Thomas Hayot, Robert Leclerc, Pierre Lefebvre, Jean Lemire, Pierre Lepelé dit Lahaye, René Maillot dit Laviolette, Mathurin Martineau dit Saintonge,Étienne Pepin de Lafond, Jean Poisson, Robert Rivard dit Loranger, Mathurin Tessier dit Maringouin, and François-Noël Vanasse. The biographies generally talk about where they came from in France, where they lived in Québec, how they met their wife, circumstances of their wedding, wills, children, and who their children married. Jean's biography is smaller than most, at 7 pages, but contains hard-to-find information that is well-documented. I descend from over 100 of the original 250 or so settlers Laforest has biographies of, so I have the entire series (28 volumes so far, with new ones coming out each year, though he will probably stop with 30). The books are available by writing to The LISI Press, Palm Harbor, Florida 34682-1063. They are also available in many libraries--I discovered them in the Library of Congress genealogy section in Washington D.C.
