Kimberley, I have a hunch that the original spelling of that family name was Cote, pronounced Ko-tay. In French, the accents would be Côté. They date all the way back to an original settler to Quebec in the 1600s. Over the years thousands of French-Canadians drifted down through the eastern states. For example, I found hundreds if them in Woonsocket, RI in the 1880s. That may help your search. Bob
