Dear Tom Johnston:DNA research is needed to prove lineage
Here are the records:
Census 1800 Lincoln NC p811 Thomas Costner 4m less than <10, 2 m 10-16, 1 m 45 & over, 1 f 10-16, 1 f 45 & over
Census 1810 Lincoln NC p411 Thomas Costner 1 m less than <10, 1 m 10-16, 3 m 16-26, 1 m 45 & over, 1 f less than <10, 1 f 16-26, 1 f 45 & over(ONE DAUGHTER unaccounted for)
Census 1830 Lincoln NC Thomas Costner p 176 1 m 30-40, 1 m 80-90, 1 f 60-70
Thomas first married Mary Marquerite Barringer, the widow of Wilhelm Froneberger. He willed the Froneberger land back to the Froneberger sons. Some say that David "Stiff" Costner and Andrew Costner (b abt 1774) were his sons from this marriage, but I cannot find evidence of this--there was another brother, Andrew b abt 1755--near the same time Adam came to NC. MCS

!RECORD: Christening Christ Lutheran Church, York PA 1755
BOOK: May 2, 1775 bought 300 acres of land "on the west side of the South Fork on Lick Branch" beginning at a whitetoak, Laboon's corner--the Laboon Entry was 300 acres lying not far north of Little Long Creek and I think became a part of the Pasour land. The Pasour mountain in the early days was called Laboon mountain--from his brother Peter
SOURCE: AIS Search finds an Andrew Costner and Daniel,(perhaps a son of record--at least 21y) on tax records in Somerset Co. New Jersey in 1791
BOOK: Our Kin by LM Hoffman p256-257 (the story about the Andrew Costner in Southeast Missouri is about Andrew Costner--the son of Thomas b1748 son of George Adam Kastner--OR maybe one of this Andrew's sons--at least he is not the original Andrew)
Our Kin by LM Hoffman 1915 twists them up a bit.Lorena Shell Eaker--German Speaking People West of the Catawba, helps a lot.
The final say will have to be DNA--my father and Mike Cosner are the only "close" participants so far.See entries from Sandy Cosner Norton on the Kastner/Costner etc DNA Study.
Sincerely yours
Melanie Costner Snyder
