George Adam Kastner christened 1709 Edenkoben Germany d 1767 Tryon Co NC
CHRISTENING: Edenkoben Germany records by Dr Alfred Hans Kuby & LDS Church records; Christ Lutheran Church, York PA

The British Ship, Patience (Sometimes Listed as Paliena) sailed from Rotterdam, Holland with Adam Kastner and 5 children. Nothing is said about a wife. Adam could neither read or write so when the ship's clerk made the entry on the ship's register, He spelled the Name, "Adam Kastner". When Adam took the oath of office, he made his mark "H" after the signature. The ship was under the command of Captain John Brown. Adam was accompanied by his 5 children (There may have been more) and we assume his wife and arrived 16 September 1748 in Pennsylvania.

The Pasour mountain in the early days was called Laboon mountain--from his brother Peter
SOURCE: AIS Search finds an Andrew Costner and Daniel,(perhaps a son of record--at least 21y) on tax records in Somerset Co. New Jersey in 1791
BOOK: Our Kin by LM Hoffman p256-257 (the story about the Andrew Costner in Southeast Missouri is about Andrew Costner--the son of Thomas b1748 son of George Adam Kastner--or maybe one of this Andrew's sons--at least he is not the original Andrew)

So--Peter Heyl arrived in Philadelphia 5 October 1736, he entered land in Anson County NC on 28 March 1753. Peter Heyl, on his way south with his wife and children, met Bostian Bess who had taken up land in NC and built a cabin and was on his way back to Pennsylvania to find a wife. They camped together and Bostian bess insisted that the Heyl family go to his home and occupy his cabin until he returned. Bostian did not stay long in Pennaylvania, and when he returned to NC, he married Katrina Peiter Heyl's oldest daughter--abt 1850.

According to to the Anson County Land Entry Book (SS.586) on 27 August 1753, Bastian Best entered 300 acres on the branches of Leepers and Killians Creeks, being the place he now lives. On 16 May 1754 he received a Patent for these 300 acres. According to the Anson county Deed book #2:139-42, Bastian best purchased 210 acres on the north side of the South Fork of Catawba River on 30 March 1761. This became his home and was across the river from Peter Hoyle's property.

Peter Heyl's original land grant was in ANSON COUNTY which encompassed much of Western NC. North Carolina at that time extended all the way to the Pacific Ocean. As the land was settled, additional counties were organized: ie, in 1753, Mecklenburg County was cut from Anson and 1769, Tryon County was cut from Mecklenburg. In 1772 the boundary between North and South Carolina west of the Catawba River was surveyed and part of Tryon County was determined to be in SC. In 1779 Tryon County was dissolved and Lincoln and Rutherford Counties were organized.

Jacob Costner, (Chr 1726) son of Adam Costner, the pioneer, married Elizabeth, the widow of Jacob Hoyle. COURT: Received Anson Co NC land grant --He entered a large tract of land on the South fork of the Catawba River, and received a patent there for August 20, 1753, one of the very earliest grants in this immediate section. Jacob Costner, son of Adam Costner, the pioneer, married Elizabeth, the widow of Jacob Hoyle. Her family name was Brooks. 1764

Thomas Costner (b 1749)
NOTE: in July 1773 he purchased 302 acres of land on the South side of the South Fork from James Hemphill--Joseph W. Costner Sr. 1966
Thomas first married Mary Marquerite Barringer, the widow of Wilhelm Froneberger. He willed the Froneberger land back to the Froneberger sons.

David "Stiff" Costner (b 8 Feb 1774)
!NOTE: lived on Upper Long Creek about opposite the present Bessemer City OK LMH

Larrance Costner (b 1791)
!NOTE: Family spelling Larrance
RECORD: Marriage Bond Lincoln NC (Lawrance) bondsman Thomas Costner; Census 1810 1820 Lincoln NC; 1830 Rutherford NC (Lary)

#3150 (270), February 8, 1828, Laurence Costner enters 25 acres on South side of First Broad River joining his own land, Burrell Grigg and Jacob Maney (or Mauey-Mauney) deceased. Issued. Rutherford County, North Carolina Land Entries, page ___.

So you see the ANSON County Land Entry Book (SS.586) in 1753, and the ANSON County Deed book #2:139-42 in 1761

Adam Kastner/Costner was said to have had a great deal of land --but it has not been found on the records--those records may be in ANSON County??
Or were they able to enter land in PA, or by mail?
(in 1798, John Ford jumps from Charlotte Co, Virginia to Rutherford NC--was he able to enter his land in Virginia?)

It looks to me that Adam Costner and his sons Jacob, Peter, Thomas and daughter Margaret came to NC abt 1755--they probably didn't bring the baby --Andrew with them. Andrew (1755) later receives land from his brother Peter, but doesn't look like he actually comes to NC

It would be nice to know about Adam Costner's land

I want to know if David "Stiff's" land is a part of any of these. Did he inherit his land? Who is his father, Thomas or Andrew? Is he a brother to Andrew who went to Missouri? Does he have more brothers and sisters?
