Thanks for the response. Down in the Lake City/Lake Butler area which I believe is north of where you live, it is my underdstanding there is a bunch of Costines.

James Benjamin Williams, one of my 3X great
parent's sons, was born in Colleton District, SC in 1825. He married Mary Ann Costine, born 1827 in Colleton District, SC. Mary Ann
Costine's parents were Henry and Margret Costine.

The earliest Costine shown in a Colleton District census is Martha Costine in 1820.
When the 1790 census was taken, what would become known as Colleton District was part of
Charlston District.

James Benjamin Williams, Martha Costine Williams, and family, 3 children, moved to Florida around 1855. Their last child born
in SC was in 1854; their first born in Florida was in 1856.[Others from Colleton, SC
left at the same time.]

Descendants of James and Mary Costine Williams in recent years have been trying to determine if there are any Costines in
Colleton County, SC today. To the best of my
knowledge, no.

James Benjamin Williams on his mother's side
was descended from Huguenots that arrived in Virginia around 1700. Among that group was a family with the surname Chastain. Realizing
that early census takers sometimes spelled names as they heard them, I was theorizing
that what was Chastain may have become Costine down in South Carolina. Apparently, my theory was wrong.

James Benjamin williams and Mary Ann Costine Williams are buried in New Zion Cemetery, Bradford, Florida.
