My mother's name was Rosemary Costello (from OH and later MI), daughter of Walter William Costello and Rose Diamond of Irish/German descent. Costello, according to her, literally means "fleet footed". Ironically, Walter Costello was a athelete who possesed what was probably world-class speed. He played, what was then pro football, baseball and held the poll volitng record at University of Cincinatti (I think) until they invented the fiberglass pole.

Anyway, the name Costello is of Irish origin but if you go back far enough it's from Spain. According to my mother Rosemary it could be traced to a King of Spain. How she knew this, I have no clue. I really have no clue as to it's truth either.
