My great great grand father was James Costello (b 1835). I was always told he came from Roscommon, but I have not documented that as yet. I have his naturalization papers - September, 1850 in Herkimer County, NY. He lived in Manhiem, fought in the civil war, married Mary A. Kelley and had the following children: James T. (1865-1921), Katie (b 1868), Dennis (b 1871), Robert (b 1873),Edward(b 1875), Theresa and Alfred (b 1881). James, Katie, Dennis, and Theresa all went to Amsterdam NY in the late 1880's or early 1890's. All are buried there. Alfred also went to Amsterdam, relocating to Washington, DC. as a young man. I recall being told that someone may have run a saloon, maybe Edward or his descendents. James was listed as a tanner in Manhiem on the 1860 and 1870 census. By the 1880 census he had moved his family to Camden and was still in the tanning business. Hope you find this info useful. Moira Anne Costello Furman Notify Administrator about this message?
