Patrick C. Costello, Patrick H. Costello, Alfred Costello > Town of Camden, NY.

  of 1877

The people in the subject line of this message were all in the sole leather tanning business. They took leather and developed it for the soles (bottoms) of shoes, boots etc. I am related to some or all of these as per my Great Uncle Robert C. Costello.

As far as I can tell, some or all of these people started a tanning business in Camden, NY. in 1847. They became renowned for thier efforts. The name of the company was "Camden Sole Leather Company". Around 1887, P.C. and P.H. bought a tannery in Oswayo, Pennsylvania, then around 1880 bought 5000 acres or so of land in the township of Sylvania Pennsylvania. They started a tannery there and at one time, it was the largest tannery in the world. In 1883 (I believe) the post office renamed the town Costelloville, then it shortend to Costello.

Later on after the tannery was finished in Camden, NY., the site was occupied by a yarn factory.

I am trying to find my link to these people and thier history.

I am Steven Thomas Costello, my Dad is: Thomas Addison Costello as was My Grandfather. My Grandfather had two siblings: Robert C. Costello and John Costello.
