Thanks so much for your reply. I'm going to message you back in English for clarity's sake (on my part!).

That is absolutely fascinating. I had no idea that our surname went so far back (1670). I had read the history of the name, back to Santiago Matamoros at Compostela and all, but never the history in Costa Rica.

I've been told that my grandfather, Angel Matamoros, was a symphony conductor who often worked in Spain (I don't know if he was born there). His wife (my father's mother) was Eliza Borloz Matamoros.

My parents divorced when I was 15 so my knowledge of the Matamoros side of the family is limited. My mother is a Jara (daughter of Graciano and Beatriz Jara) of Heredia.
