That's a tough one! From what I'm told, most of the people who settled there weren't Costa Ricans. There were a lot of Hondurans and Nicaraguans who worked for the Pacific Banana Companies --and Golfito was a banana growing region. Brown suggests West Indian ancestry and I remember a Brown family in our neighborhood who origninated in Aruba. The West Indians are commonly called Jamaicans but they came from all over the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico, including the US.
