Hello, Norfolk strays in county Durham!
The children of James and Mary Ann Cory of Aylsham, Norfolk seem to have moved up to county Durham, England in the 1870/80s with their wives & children or as single people, marrying in co. Durham. I guess the move was prompted by the agricultural depression and ready work in the Durham coalfields. Place names are Collierley, Witton Gilbert, Sacriston, Daisy Hill, Lanchester, Greencroft, Plawsworth.
James and Mary Ann (nee Ducker) Cory's children were all born in Aylsham, Norfolk and were:
1. Thomas, b.c.1847 married Emma Jane Harrison Pygall - children: Henry Cory or Pygall/Pygle (1866 Aylsham - 1875 Chester-le-Street), Emma bc.1880 Sacriston, Blanche bc.1882 Gorleston, Suffolk, possibly others.
2. Elizabeth, b.c.1851 married Henry Edward Spink - they yo-yoed between Aysham, Norfolk and co. Durham, at least 2 of their children were baptised there: Sarah Ann Spink, b.c.1872 and Elizabeth Spink, b.c.1878
3. Martha, b.c.1853 married 1875 in Durham RD John Brown (b. Borwich) with children as follows:
3.1 Henry E. Cory (spelled ‘Corry’ in 1881; Brown in 1891).
3.2 Robert Brown, b. Greencroft, c.1876.
3.3 Susannah Brown, b. Greencroft, c.1880.
3.4 George William Brown, bc.1884.
3.5 James Brown, b. Daisy Hill, Witton Gilbert, c.1886.
3.6 John Thomas Brown, b. Daisy Hill, Witton Gilbert, c.1890.
4. Mary Ann, b.c 1855 married (in Collierley 28/10/1871) John Pull, also born Aysham. They started their married life in Durham then returned to Aylsham. The following of their children: Frances and Blanche Beatrice were born in Durham RD in 1874
5. James, b.c.1858. In Sept. qtr 1882 at Houghton-le-Spring a James Cory marries either Susan Mary Carne or Agnes Smith.
6. John, b.c.1860
7. Susannah, b.c.1864-7. In the June qtr 1884 at Chester-le-Street a Susannah Cory, b. Norwich, married John Gowland, b. Rainton. She died aged 46 in Sedgefield, Dec. qtr 1910.
7.1 John Cory, b.1882 Daisy Hill
7.2 George Gowland, bc.1886 Daisy Hill
7.2 Mary Gowland, bc.1888 Sacriston
7.2 Ellen Gowland, bc.1890 Carville
7.2 Joseph Gowland, bc.1891 Carville
7.2 Greenshields Gowland, bc.1900 Bearpark
Can anyone tell me about these Corys, Browns, Gowlands, Spinks and Pulls please?
