If Nathan Corwin Clark, b. 1818, was named after a Nathan Corwin of Orange County, it virtually had to be Nathan Howell Corwin (1796-1857), the only Nathan Corwin in Orange County at the time that I know of. There is a problem, though, in that Nathan Corwin was in Wallkill and your Clarks were in Newburgh.

If you can get over the geographical hurdle, the fact remains that your Nathan Clark could not have been closely related to Nathan H. Corwin because the latter's children were born too late and his only sister who did not die young is known to have married a John Moffat. People did name children after friends and neighbors, but whether that was a possibility there I don't know.

The other possibility, of course, is that Nathan Clark was named after one of the Nathan Corwins down in Southold. That would depend, I suppose, on when the Clarks left Southold - if they'd ever been there.
