Matthias was the brother of Thomas and George, sons of John (d. 1631). The boys arrived in Salem Mass. ca. 1632-34. George's son Jonathon was one of the witch trial judges. After landing in Salem, Matthias founded Ipswitch, Mass., and then travelled to the New Haven Colony (now New Haven Conn.). "In 1640 Matthias joined a band of 33 men...who sailed from New Haven across the Long Island Sound and founded the town of Southold, L.I."
