George Corry of Kelwood lived in Ayrshire in Scotland in the 16th century. George's daughter Ann was born about 1580. She married John McIlvaine, Laird of Grimmet.
George was named the heir of his father, John, on 30 March, 1610. His property included Thomaston Castle which was built in the 13th century by a nephew of Robert the Bruce. A charter from James IV dated 12 January 1507 granted the lands of Thomaston (among others) to Thomas Corry de Kelwood.
George Corry died without a male heir and so his property passed on to Ann. George evidently left a will or some other document to this effect, but I've yet to see it. However, Ann brought the property of Thomaston Castle to the McIlvaine family through her marriage and the McIlvaines occupied it until the late 1700s. Parts of the building are still standing.
Looking for any info on George Corry of Kelwood, his father, John Corry of Kelwood, and back to Thomas Corry de Kelwood who received the Thomaston lands from King James IV. Thanks!
