My own Corriea/Correia family connections are three generations or rather four generations back Manoel Correia 1824, San Roque, Islands of Madeira, colony of Portugal, there are others from different communities and or Islands in the Maderias as well as from the Azores and Portugal itself. It would be very interesting to do a genetic trace through one of those companys doing this kind of research. The Older generation is gradually dying away two of five siblings born in the 30's have gone and there older half sibling, with no males to carry on the name in the next generation after mine. The new world Portuguese are translating into English Irish, French, Dutch, Chinese and East Indian families now the families are no longer living in closed island or cultural/religious communities. Where Correias intermarried for years with Rodrigues, DeSouza's, De Freitas,Da Silva's other Correia branches, Valladares, Gouviea's, Gomes Gonsalves, Periera's, Nunes, Viera's, Teixeira's Mendoca's, Ferriera's Now we are intermarrying with other nationalities, for the most part we seem to be still mostly Catholic, it is sad to see the loss in some ways. The Portuguese families of Guyana mostly sought to blend in, and not call to much attention, for most became businessmen or farmers once their indentures where served, their names where anglicised in sound and to some extent in spelling, and with the changes in politics over the last 50 years in that country many left to move to Canada the US, Brazil, UK, one day when I finally have grandchildren, Corrieas and Nunes will be just one eight of their ancestry, and our histories may be forgotten and devalued but for the great variety of genetics encompassed within from being decended from and Island people in the crossroads of the atlantic. I was a Hey another volumious family almost impossible to trace without genetic help, my children are Preston, for now, But line them all up with their cousins and my cousins and you will have half Italian, half french Canadian, a touch of Iroquois, lots of celtic blend of english Irish, Scottish and whatever muttery their English element encompasses. I like the genesreunited website as it puts the connections graphic except for first and second marriages and offspring. still I think its easier to navigate. Notify Administrator about this message?
