Demerara is also a river in British Guyana or rather the now republic of Guyana. Guyana according to my mum (her maiden name was Corriea or Correia)was originally called Demerara. As you have, no doubt, pasted together in the 3 years since your original post, Correia is Portuguese name the word meaning leather belt which ancient traditions would suggest leather workers manufacturing belts were called Correia. Our line of Corriea has been traced to Manoel Correia born 1824 in San Roque, Madeira, who probably went to the Guianas after the abolishon on Slavery as a indentured worker. He himself was apparently and only child, though I would think his own parents were not since there are many Corrieas through out the world wherever the Portuguese went. So while your family has a link back to Geronimo it is probably through the matrilinial line and not through the patriarchal line. In much the same way as my patrilinial line through my grandmother links up to an engineer who had something to do with inventing a valve which enabled pressure boiler to function and not explode, and another to famous scottish whiskey makers, etc. Correias in my grandfathers second marriage will die out with the death of my uncle as he never married to produce children. And his first marriage produced only one male who has no sons. Other of my grandfather siblings however seem to have produce more sons but not many considering how many siblings he had 11 altogether The Catholic church where the family had its weddings baptisms and funerals burnt down again in Georgetown Guyana this past Feb/Mar and this time apparently all the documentation with it , only the copies in the Registries dept still exist and the family bible in the hands of another relative somewhere in Canada. for this branch of the family thats our update. According to a genology research the Corriea families decend from Corriea who was an adviser to either the king of Portugal or the king of spain who was prolific in his parenting, I can't remember where the framed history is at present it just a general history of the family's antecedents and not specific to the varying genologies, good luck with your search!
