Hi Pat,
I have a copy of most of the Marriages for Cornwall and it lists Philemon Best marrying Frances (Fanny) Varcoe on 6 July 1803 in St Stephens in Brannel. That is all I have to go on. He died in 18 January 1833 in St Dennis aged 66yrs (according to the records here that I have from St Dennis Churchyard) which would make his year of birth abt 1767 or so. I SUSPECT his parents WERE Richard Best and Mary Stick but that is only a hunch, as from my copy of the Marriage Records, they appear to be the only Richard and Mary around that time, but I do not have a complete list of all the marriages for St Stephens in Brannel. However, I do not have more that 2 children of this pair and Philemon is not one of them. I really have hit a brick wall with this one. I need the maiden surname of his Mother, so that I can tie Richard Best (I have a few in my database) into my family of BEST. I have 6760 names in my database from Cornwall, quite a few areas of the USA, Canada and to New Zealand plus here in Australia.
You have been very kind is assisting a perfect stranger and I am very appreciative. I thank you for your efforts on my behalf.
Regards
Jim Best
