A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late J. M. and Frankie Benfield Cornett. He was a 1973 graduate of Elizabethton High School. Danny was formerly employed as a Machine Operator with Kennametal Inc. He was a member of the Southside Free Will Baptist Church. He loved to fish and golf and was an avid UT Vol Fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Mitchell Cornett; and a sister, Betty Jean Williams. Survivors include his wife, Debbie Murphy Cornett; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Greg McKinney and Daniel and Amy Cornett, all of Elizabethton, TN; eight grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Wayne Deloach and Elizabeth Ann and Johnny Vines, all of Elizabethton, TN. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence or the residences of his sisters. Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m., Friday, June 5, 2009, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steve Burleson officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 6, 2009, in Happy Valley Memorial park. Music will be provided by Ricky and Kathy Melton and Mary Grindstaff, Pianist. Active pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday will be Gary Deloach, Scott Greer, Richard Lacey, Jim Nidiffer, James Roberts, Alan Murphy, Keith Hyder and Mike Britt. Honorary pallbearers will be his Church family, the staff of the McLeod Center, the surgery staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital, and friends at Kennametal. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Danny to the American Cancer Society, c/o Lou Cooter, 415 Washington Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643 or the Medical Center Hospice, 101 Med Tech Parkway, Suite 100, Johnson City, TN 37604.
