According to Fannin Co, GA marriage records, a Neuton Cornett married Eliza Watkins on 20 Sep 1874. I have not been able to identify this Eliza Watkins; nor did I find this couple anywhere in the 1880 census. Cornett marriages are found in families connected to Watkins of Gilmer Co, but this is the only Cornett-Watkins marriage in either county.
For many years, I had been unsuccessful in finding further information on a Martha Watkins, born 1853, in Gilmer Co, GA. Martha also had a twin sister, Mary Watkins. I have now found a death certificate for MARTHA CORNETT, born in Gilmer Co, GA; her year of birth is shown as 1853 and the names of her parents are shown as Henry & Becky Watkins - all of this matches the Martha Watkins I had not been able to find. The death certificate shows Martha Cornett as being married, but does not indicate her husband's name. Is it possible it was Martha Watkins who married Neuton Cornett in 1874? Eliza may have been her middle name - or an error made by the recorder or transcriber.
The death certificate for Martha Cornett was issued in 1919 in Eatonton, Putnam Co, GA. Personal information about Martha was provided by R. D. Richler of Eatonton, GA. Death certificate shows place of burial as Union Chappel Church.
