I am a descendant of that clan of Cornells and live about 15 miles north of there just outside of Escanaba in Delta County, Michigan. My G-g-grandmother was Euretta Etta CORNELL (b.9 Jul 1853, m.3 Jul 1869, d20 Dec 1948), wife of Hiram WELLMAN.Euretta was the duaghter of James CORNELL (b.24 Jan 1810, m. 12 Apr 1829, d. Sept 1881) and Elizabeth Jane SOUTHARD (b.5 Sept 1811, d. 26 Jun 1905).
I show no Charles in that group, but this is not to say there was none. There were several Charles CORNELLs in some of the other branches of the family. If you could give me a bit more info (spouses, children, parents, and dates) I'll see what I can dig up for you. Also; are you certain that Charles is his first name?

There were, as you say, some which were Keepers of the Lighthouse, but at the moment, I can't put my finger on which they were.Joseph Southard CORNELL, eldest brother to my G-g-grandmother Euretta, served with Euretta's Future Husband Hiram WELLMAN in the Civil War and was in Sherman's March to the Sea.Joseph in later years (1887~1890) was the Mail Carrier across the "Death's Door" which is the region surrounding the Door County Peninsula and Islands of which Washington is one.
