Does anyone know anything about the [John] Cornelius mentioned below from Goochland Co records in the 1740s? Or is anyone researching the surname Cornelius in 18C Goochland? Virginia Gazette July 3, 1746 DESERTED from Capt. Robert Hodgson’s Independent Company now raising for the Service and Defence of South-Carolina, the following Soldiers, viz.........[11 named] Nehemiah Joyner, a Planter born in Virginia, 22 Years of Age, of a fair Complexion, freckled, and has a slender Shape, 6 Feet high. He is suppos’d to be somewhere near one CORNELIUS'S, who lives either in Caroline or Goochland County. His [Joyner's] Relations live at a Place called Tosi Knot, in Edgcomb County, North-Carolina. John Cornelius continued to be associated with Nehemiah Joyner, and later his son? Frederick Joyner in Kershaw and Lancaster Co, SC. John names a son Rowland, so he must be descended somehow from the Rowland Cornelius who left a will in Amelia Co. Thanks. Notify Administrator about this message?
