LETTER DATED 2-27-83
WRITTEN BY WALLACE WARD OF HOUSTON, FORMERLY OF ALEXANDRA.
In her letter to Elizabeth she said her Wards were from Bruke, Hancock, and Gallul counties. She mentioned she had taken her Wards back to the late 1600's. (probably not related to our Mathias Ward) She goes no to say, "Go into North Carolina archives and mention Cornelius and even on will throw up their hands in holy horror. Two William Cornelius' totally confuse that family - both of western North Carolina, both militiamen in the revolution - My William moved to South Carolina area Monteanburg? and from there to Blount County Alabama. His bible says he is the son of William Cornelius and Anne Phillips where they were have never been able to find out. We have run across Rowland Cornelius. The expert on this family is my cousin Mrs. Harry Heck, Aunandale?, Virginia 22003. One unusual coincidence in your letter is mentioning a Mrs. Drennan of Birmingham, Alabama. I was born in Birmingham. My father Wallace Ward was a law partner of J.L. Drennan from 1899 - 1905. I knew J. L. when I practiced law in Birmingham in the 1930's. I cannot connect up with the Wards you mentioned as I wrote in the foregoing. I wish you every luck in your quest."
Wallace T Ward, Houston, Texas 77079.
