You raised some interesting questions Betty. But the 1850 census of Peter lists son Mathew Dewitt (MD) not William D. 1850 census: Henderson Co., NC Aug. 7, 1850 754/754 Peter Corn, 57, M, stone cutter, NC Marian Corn, 53, F, NC Nancy Corn, 20, F, NC Robert Corn, 25, M, farmer, NC M.D. Corn, 17, M, farmer, NC (Mathew Dewitt b. 1832) Susan, 15, M, NC Hyrum, 11, M, NC Myrum, 8, F, NC (Mary Ann) Also, of the sons of John Peter Corn, only two sons William and Peter could have had a William in that age bracket. In the 1830 census Peter has 2 males in the 5-10 bracket. This would be William age 6-7 and Robert age 8. These could be reversed easily. With William the older. William Corn, son of John Peter Corn, went to Ga. and it does not appear any of his children returned to NC. Peter is the only Corn male in Henderson/Buncombe Co. who had a son William in that age bracket. Mathew Dewitt Corn born Oct. 2, 1832 fits in the 1850 census.
