John,

Either genforum didn’t notify me of your response or I accidentally deleted it with all the spam, so I hope a late response is better than no response. You ask for documentation about Rebecca being a child of Adam Corn. Here are my sources:

1. My family notes from my aunt’s family history interview with her mother (my grandmother)in 1932. My grandmother descended from Rebecca Corn Frady though Rebecca’s daughter Patience Melinda Frady (who married John F. Patton). My grandmother said her grandmother Rebecca Corn Frady’s father was Elder Adam Corn who was a Baptist preacher.

2. Source: North Carolina Marriage Bonds, 1741-1868
Bride: Rebeckah Corn
Groom: Levi J Frady
Bond Date: 09 Sep 1838
County: Macon
Record #: 01 004
Bondsman: Adam Corn; John Corn
Bond #: 000077298
Comment: No Witness

3. Proximity to other Adam Corn descendants in census records:

A. Union County, GA, 1840 census (online at http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ga/union/census/1840) shows Levi J. Frady in household #490 living next to John “Carne”. I believe that Carne should really be Corn. Also living nearby are other surnames that intermarried with the Corn family, such as “Burrang” and Burrell.
B. 1850 census: Murphy, Cherokee Co., NC June 1, 1850, household 999, Levi Frady, 40, M, farmer, NC, Rebecca, 35, F, NC, Marily ? A., 12, F, Ga. (Mary Ann ?), Loura, 10, F, Ga. (Louisa), Charles, 1, M, NC. Note: Close by at house 991 is the James Many family. James is the father of Rufus Many/Maney husband of Jane Corn, sister of Rebecca Corn Frady.

4. Confirmation of Rebecca by another experienced Corn family researcher, Gary Cornn.

Levi Frady died circa 1872 and Rebecca married Joseph Etris in 1874. However, Joseph died before 1880, and in the 1880 census of Lumpkin County, GA, Rebecca is shown as Rebecca Aters (misspelling of Etris), widowed and living with her daughter Linda (Patience Melinda) Patten (Patton) who is also widowed in 1880.

On the basis of census records, I estimate that Rebecca was born around 1815-1819. She and Joseph Etris had no children. She and Levi Frady had at least 6 children: Mary Ann, b. circa 1839, married ? Nichols; Louisa Frady, b. circa 1841, m. John Payne (Pain); Charles (whom I believe died young); Margaret Elizabeth, b. circa 1846, m ? Barns/Barnes; Hannah Taletha, b. circa 1847, m. (1) William Alfred (or Alford) Stancil/Stansel and had several children, m (2) Oliver Self; Patience Melinda (my great-grandmother), b. circa 1849, m. (1) John Freemont Patton on 21 Dec 1867 in Fannin County, GA, m. (2) John Turner.

I have a transcription of Joseph Etris’ will naming his wife Rebecca. Rebecca is believed to be buried in Old Patton Cemetery in Lumpkin County, GA, along with her first husband Levi Frady and daughters Melinda Frady Patton and Hanna Taletha Frady Stancil Self.

Alice Corn Miles was kind enough to send me an extensive file of her research on the descendants of Adam Corn. It is way too lengthy to post here, but you might try E-mailing her to see if she would be willing to share it with you as well. It is very well documented and researched! She has posted at this website so you should be able to find her.

I hope this helps you and other Adam Corn researchers. Rebecca is so often left out of the picture and I want to be sure that she and her descendents get picked up in the Corn family lines!

Janice Anton Nolin,
ggg granddauther of Adam Corn through his daughter Rebecca
