Thanks Robert. I also wonder if there's any connection between the Jno Mallory in Orange Co. VA and John Mallory/ Ann Corn marriage. If so, he traveled from VA to Conneticutt to marry her. (1746 27 May- Ann Corn born. She married Jonathan Mallory in Firfield, Conn on 6 Jan 1768) I have a copy of the source of the above somewhere in my files but I didn't put sources in my CORN timeline. I'm not sure why John Adam Corn was counted with Jno Mallory in 1749 in Orange Co VA either except apparently even in the 1700's, there were shady dealings when it came to acquiring land. John Adam Corn may have "rented" himself out so Mallory could acquire land in his name. Orange Co is right next to Albemarle Co. Maybe (?) this enabled John Adam Corn to raise the money to buy more land in Albemarle Co. If you'll look at Thomas Corne in 1706, it looks like he did the same thing. I was really confused at these two entries, but I was at the FHL in SLC at the time so I found a genealogist who was knowledgeable and asked for an explanation. Apparently, it was customery for people to rent (not sure if that's the correct term) themselves out for a fee to land speculators who were trying to acquire large quanities of land. They'd supposedly transport all these people, who would be eligable for so much land-their headright--and then the people would sell their headrights to the land speculator. I don't know if records would be kept of those transactions since they weren't strictly legal. (I'd like to find out more about whether this was a common proctice, etc) Maybe Thomas Corne, in 1706 and John Adam Corne in 1749, were using this method to improve their own fortunes. Also, could they be related? 1706 17 Apr- THOMAS CORNE was one of 47 persons brought to Northumberland Co, VA by Capt George Eskridge 1706 10 June-THOMAS CORNE was one of 92 persons brought to Prince George Co, VA by Benjamin Harrison, Jr.. (Many of the same people on headright list of Capt. Thomas Eskridge in Northumberland Co 17 April 1706 , also on this list.) Prince George Co is next to Chesterfield Co,( where some unknown Corn orphans are bound out to work in 1770's) Henrico is next to Chesterfield and xlose by Prince George Co. That's of some interest because if you'r looking at igration patterns, Albemarle Co was taken from part of Goochland, which in turn came from Henrico Co. Maybe someone will unearth something someday that will make the above puzzle pieces all fall into place. Mary Notify Administrator about this message?
