I have just found some of my relatives who have the name Corns who are burried at Tony's Nose Cemetery in Allen County Ohio, back in 1800's. There is one grave there for James H. Cornes with no date of birth or death, but it appears to be one of the oldest in the cemetery. Notes say:
Capt. 70th Co 2 BN VTN
Perhaps this is the James you are speaking of.
