Thanks a lot, Gary. I REALLY appreciate your posting all that information on Mary Ann Corn.

What I was hoping to find was primary evidence--a contemporary document of some sort showing birthplace and parents. I don't want to publish it or anything, I would just like to see a copy and know that it exists. If anyone knows if a birth certificate exists, I would love to see a copy.

I'm a teacher/researcher by training so it's my nature to want to get some kind of primary documentation if possible. Of course, there is a wealth of information on the various genealogy sites and lists that people genrously share with each other--like you have, but very little of what's on the lists or even on the LDS site seems to be sourced with primary documentation.

There's always the danger that when I read what someone else has posted I may think I've found confirmation for a relationship, when what I've actually found is someone else's best hunch. It might even be a best hunch based on information I (or maybe my cousin) supplied to someone else at an earlier time on another list or site. If there's no source given, who knows?

You have given sources. And now I see that the source of the info you've given me is my cousin, Allysun, and as far as I know (I could be wrong; I'll check with her.) we both started working from the same information gleaned from our great-grandmother's scrapbook some years ago. The rest of the information I have also found (independently) in various places on the web (most of it without citations as to source or documentation). All that information when added up does seem to show that the George Henry Corn who is the grandson of John Peter Corn is also our great-great-grandfather, but I sure would be more comfortable with that belief if I could find something more tangible.

I guess I'm just mumbling my reservations about "rooting" out loud. I'm really VERY grateful that lists like this exist and that kind people like you help out the newcomers like me.

Happy New Year, Kiernan
