bridget corliss-Galway 1880
I am looking for information on my great-grandmother, Bridget Corliss.According to information from my mother's diary as a young teen, Bridget's parents were John and Mary, they lived in a little village of Galway with her three brothers. She "toiled in the fields and tended the farm animals" as a girl and she sailed for the US about age 17, arriving in Boston about 1882-1885.She had an uncle in South Framingham Mass and worked as a living-out girl/servant.
She met and married a Thomas Walsh, supposedly from Cork (born about 1860), and they had six children,(Mary/Mamie, Michael, Margaret/Bardy, Thomas, Anna, John) including my grandmother Anna. They lived in Brooklyn NY. I do not know when or how the transition was made from Mass to NY. Thomas Walsh died in the flu epidemic in 1918 and Bridget died about 1948.
I have found US Census records on her starting in 1900 in Brooklyn. These would place her birthdate at around 1861-1865.
I am traveling to Ireland in July 2010 and would love to find any family connections/locations in Galway. Any information would be wonderful, as I am just learning how to do genealogy
