I am one step further back than my earlier posting on Ben Corley and Bettie Mae Hatton.
I find him as Val Valentine and Volentine easy to confuse an a and o however there is another family near them that spells their surname Volentine and my uncle has that surname and pronunces it vol-n-teen. so it is possible that it could be spelled either way some documents appear to be an o others it looks more like an o.
I am looking for information on this family Bettie Mae's grandmother was Temperance Mae Barton my maternal grandmothers family. I like to have some information on the married into family to have for cousins from that line.

yeah, the names she gave didnt sound too familiar, i did know ben's dad's name was val. my grandfather actually didn't talk about his father a lot, he talked about his mother a lot, and in fact I think she was a huge part of the his part of the corley clan, I do think it's humorous that the death certificate states he was a farmer, he wasnt a farmer, he was a gambler and jack of all trades, he did some farming but not really, in fact from about the time my grandfather was elementary school age they lived in a house in town, (house was actually burned down by either my grandfather's brother bernice or his son several several years ago, but the lot is still owned by them). another bit o'information, family lore is that "uncle doc" (Carlton Ford Corley) was actully not Ben's biological son. i dont know the whole story but apparently grandma corley was already pregnant when her and ben got married. how true this is i dont know, but it's interesting. jen:)--
