Info Wanted Corkers of Liberty/Burke/Glynn Cos, GA
If anyone has any information regarding the Corkers of Liberty County, Sunbury District of Georgia.
Stephen Corker would have been born around 1760-1780 and lived at least up to 1830.He filed an Indian Depredation claim in 1822 for damages received in 1788.He was paid This very well could have been a son of the original Corker that received the damages. But does not say so in the information in the claim papers.
He may have had 4 or 5 brothers James, John, David R., William and/or Edward.
David R. was convicted of manslaughter in Mar of 1799.Stephen was implicated but never charged.
William and John (of Liberty Co.) were listed on a bill of attainder, "banishment and confiscation" in 1783 after Revolutionary War.I would presume for being Loyalists.
Stephen shows up in Burke County on the 1820 & 1830 Census. The 1830 shows two males 20 to 30 years old.So this more than likely is a 2nd generation of Corker.
The Corker I am related to is Stephen Corker m. Selinah Lanier.s - James A. d. Minerva s. Almiran all of Burke County.Selinah later married a Churchill.
What makes all of this difficult is the courthouse in Burke County burned in 1854.Any information with the Corkers of Georgia is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
