Laclede MO-Joseph Core exec.
In Feb 1879 Laclede Circuit Court indicted Joseph Core for the killing of George E. King.Mr.Core was found guilty and was executed by hanging on Friday, Mar.5,1880. After the execution, a confession was read by his spiritual adviser.Several months before Mr. King was killed, Mr.Core accused Mr King of burning some of his wheat stacks and had him arrested. Mr. King at his trial proved that he was not the man.Mr. Core did not believe that justice had been done and ill will persisted between the two men resulting in Mr. King's death.
Mr. Core was a young man in his 20's with a wife and two young boys.Mr. King was in his 40's with several children. I'm sure that it was a tragedy for both families.
