Sarah,

The best exploration of ancestry of Henry Core of German Twp., Fayette Co., PA is given in this thread:

http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.core/23.31.56.57/mb.ashx

look for the long one by Brian.

He shows that the ancestry you give is incorrect, one of those 'widely held mistaken beliefs' not based on evidence. There is a key document in Monongalia Co., WV records, and you really should look at Henry Core's Pension Application File where he states he was born in Hampshire Co., (West) VA.

Whether the apparent father of Henry, George Core / Kohr, can be tracked back to immigration (probably by parents) to America and across the pond, I don't know. Records of German and Swiss immigrants entering via MD and VA are mighty sparse, and the PA ships' lists--valuable, to be sure--are nowhere near complete.

I am not a Core descendant, but a descendant of the father of Henry Core's wife, Salome / Sarah.

You are wise to question the MD lore, and as Brian shows, the incorrect items published by his grandfather, Dr. Earl Core, have somewhat confused matters. Then there is the problem you note concerning oft-lifted gedcom files together with all the mistakes inherent in folks' wrongly combining this and that published bit without doing the requisite research.

If you contact me by email I can send you a file that has a bit on Salome's family.

Good hunting,
Jade
