Hi Jennifer,

http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi
has

HENRY L CORDRAY
b. 06 Oct 1913
d. 18 May 1994
LR 29401 (Charleston, Charleston, SC)

GENTRY CORDRAY
b. 21 Sep 1913
d. Feb 1978
LR 29405 (Charleston, Charleston, SC

That means for $27 each you can get their SSN applications, which will tell you their parents' names, birth place, plus address and occupation at the time they applied.

You could also try for an obituary on the Charleston County GenForum page. Sometime kind-hearted souls look them up for people.

If you ever get to Charleston, their library may have some information - old city directories, in particular, tell where people lived and what their occupation was, year by year. Not all libraries have them and not all people are in them every year.

Once you get into the 1800's a wealth of data opens up to you. Both Henry and Gentry's parents must have been born in the late 1800's.

may have some tips and links you can use. The page on posting a good query and the one on "grandpas" in particular would be good to look at.
