Hi, I help out at the Buchanan Co., IA gen society, and I am in the process in updating the Quasqueton, IA cemetery. Buried there is a Mark Brownson and family and I have been tring to trace down his parents and siblings (if any). I noticed that there was another Brownson family here about the same time (Philo Brownson and family) and was curious if he was related to Mark, as they were both born in Vermont. Anyway, in the 1860 Cono Twp., Buchanan Co., IA census, there is the following:

Philo Brownson 52 VT
Elanor 55 NY
Andrew 14 IL
Elijah Cordray 5 IA
Oscar E.Cordray 3 IA

Was curious if these were the same Elijah and Oscar that you mention? If so, do you happen to know why they are living with this family? Were they Philo and Eleanor's grandchildren?
In the 1870 census, they are in Liberty Twp., Buchanan Co., IA, and Elijah is not listed in the household, but Oscar is (with the last name spelled Cardery).
When I go to town, I plan on doing some more digging on this family and if these are your two Cordray's I will pass on any info I might stumble upon.
(This family is in Boone, Boone Co., IL in the 1850 census)

Theresa
