The Cordner name was originally Cordonnier when the original Cordners lived in France. The name means "shoemaker". although my Cordner heritage comes from Australia, I believe I found the first Cordner to come to America to be John Cordner wo imigrated in the latter part of the 1700's and became an American citizen in 1799 in the Supreme Court of the time which is now Independence Hall in Philadelphia. I have a few other little pieces of information and have been in touch with several other Cordners (I have found about 230 in the US) including another Matthew Cordner in California.
