I believe the census taker had got the two names mixed up. In the census I believe that Maude should have been written with William. I had heard from a cousin who was a census taker in 2000. When he went for the training they gave a history of census taking. It was quite common for the census taker to go house to house and take a nip on the front porch with the family. Sometimes the census taker was quite tipsy. Another thing was that they would write the info down and then redo the papers when they got home onto different sheets. That is why sometimes many people are not listed, names and ages wrong too. In 1900 William T. Corder is listed here with his mother, but no father: 1900 Washington State Census, Walla Walla Co., Wallula Prec., Ed 85, page 102A: 67/67 Cl 81 Corder, Jane b. Dec 1848 age 52 mrd 27 years 3 born/3 living b. OH Fa: PA Mo: OH Farm Laborer William T. B. Mar 1873 age 27 single b. OH Fa: OH Mo: OH RR Section In the 1900 census Maude and her parents are listed in the household right above William and his mother. Maude had just turend 14 when she married William.
