Robert ... thanks for the insightful posting.I suspect we have something here of note ... now can we figure it out?In our Family Finder DNA project I see 6 direct matches to the surname BUTLER and let's just call it "a lot" of indirect matches as seen in the pedigree's of our non-Butler surnamed matches. They list BUTLER as a surname in their pedigree.
We believe we are starting to understand our CORDER links a little better and we certainly also see in the autosomal DNA matching (atDNA) ties to the FERGUSON family as well ... so much in fact that I felt compelled to join another list ... the FERGUSON-DNA list also at Rootsweb. So begins that exploration.
We are finding that by using a combination of Y-DNA evidence, particularly the evidence that suggests the possibility of an NPE ... with atDNA (Family Finder) testing .... we can often either verify that NPE is real and we can also get a sense of which family line or lines, what other surnames, may have been associated with that event ... we just have to be smart enough and experienced enough and lucky enough to be able to see what the evidence in front of our eyes is telling us.That process continues to evolve ... so far we haven't been as smart, experienced and lucky as we need to be in most cases.
I'd like to be able to report that we know exactly how all of this fits together but can't.
I do think your discovery is significant based on proximity ... usually enough of a key to establish familiarity if not familial ties. Thanks for posting it.If you wish to further discuss what I'm seeing in our BUTLER explorations (I have done some followup on BUTLER and we have known BUTLER or assumed BUTLER connections) please contact me off list.
