Corbett in Miltown Malbay, Co Clare before 1850

I have found my Corbett ancestors in Miltown Malbay and am gathering information about the family there. I have copied much from the censuses (1839 parish and 1911 national) and church records and have made contact with Irish descendants. There are links to O'Connors, Howards and Nevills.
The area where they lived, Breaffa (the place of the wolves) is not hospitable being just inland from the Atlantic coast, and is not the sort of place you would willingly choose to build your home. I believe that the family escaped from persecution and could not go any further west, but where from? Does anyone have any thoughts?
Many of the family emigrated and in my case my ancestors (Patrick Corbett and Jane O'Connor) came to Durham City, England. Are there any descendants reading this?
Regards
Gordon Corbett
Northumberland, England
