Mick,

I got the marriage record from a very kind researcher who was in Belfast, Ireland, researching the McWilliams line. He was searching for his family tree and it seems he kept finding records for my McWilliams family tree instead. He was very generous in sharing his findings with me.

Jane and her siblings removed to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. I am apologize for leaving that location to assumption.

If you have family near Carnteel then perhaps they can get records from the Church there. My GGGrandmother and GGGrandfather are buried in the church cemetery. Her name is Mary Simpson McWilliams and the inscription reads:

Erected by John McWilliams of Manore Hastings, Port Elizabeth, South Africa
in loving memory of his father
James McWilliams of Mullaghmore
who died 31st October 1862, aged 63 years
Also of his mother
Mary McWilliams
who died 1st Aug 1901 aged 96 years

I would love to have a picture of it.

I went back and checked some more data because you mentioned the diamond mines of South Africa. It rang a bell with me. My John McWilliams (b. 1831 and mentioned above) married Isabella Corbitt. Her father was named George! The marriage record reads:
MARRIAGE RECORD: Aughnacloy Presbyterian Church, John McWilliams - merchant, Mullaghmore, James McWilliams, father, farmer, to Isabella Corbett (under age), Mullaghmore, George Corbitt, father, farmer. Witnesses: James Simpson and John Barnes. August 28 1866.

Isabella would have been under the age of 21 to be "under age".

John and Isabella lived in Cottage Hill, Tyrone Co., Ireland, until at least 1878 as they had four children and they were all born in Ireland. The four children are:
Walter Simpson McWilliams, b. 1867
William John McWilliams, b. 1873
Emily Jane McWilliams, b. 1876
Maud McWilliams, b. 1878

His mother died in 1901 and he died in 1913 so perhaps he was probably in South Africa between 1900-1913. He could have also arrived in South Africa any time after 1878 when his last child was born.

I believe we need to keep in touch. We have a connection somewhere and in time I think we can figure it out. Please keep in contact - Carole
